What is Rotary International

For more than 110 years, Rotary members have been addressing challenges around the world.

Grassroots at the core, Rotary links 1.2 million members to form an organization of international scope. It started with the vision of one man — Paul Harris. The Chicago attorney formed the Rotary Club of Chicago on 23 February 1905, so professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and give back to their communities.

Our ongoing commitment

Rotary members have not only been present for major events in history — we’ve also been a part of them. Three key traits have remained strong throughout our history.

We’re truly international. Only 16 years after being founded, Rotary had clubs on six continents. Today, members in nearly every country work to solve some of our world’s most challenging problems.

About the Rotary approach

Rotary’s programs are developing the next generation of leaders, providing funding to make the world a better place, and making peace a priority. And our programs are not just for club members. Learn how you can make a difference in your community through Rotary.

Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.

1. Promoting peace
Rotary encourages conversations to foster understanding within and across cultures. We train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict and help refugees who have fled dangerous areas.
2. Fighting disease
We educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases like polio, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. We improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in developing areas.
3. Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
We support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away. We share our expertise with community leaders and educators to make sure our projects succeed long-term.
4. Saving mothers and children
Many children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
5. Supporting education
Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
6. Growing local economies
We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

International Community-oriented Members

Impact starts with our members — people like you who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. At our Rotary Club Timișoara Cosmopolitan club meetings, our members are people of action who come together to strengthen our connections with friends and neighbors and our commitment to improving lives.

Who can join?

We’re looking for people who want to give back to their communities. Rotary clubs also welcome Rotaractors, Rotary Peace Fellows, and other members of the family of Rotary who qualify for membership.

How can I become a member?

We accept new members by invitation. But you can express your willingness to participate through an application mail where you state your desire and beliefs in joining our club. To help us know if you are good-fit we’ll ask you a few questions about yourself and your interests and then decide to welcome you to represent yourself in one of our club meetings.

What’s expected of me?

As a club member, you will be asked to:

  • Pay club dues
  • Attend most meetings and events
  • Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference and implicate yourself in the development and well-being of our community and events.

Our projects

We are  looking for a way to make a difference in our community in a global context? There’s always a project happening that needs your help, donation or input.

We use our knowledge of local issues to identify areas of need, then apply our expertise and diverse perspectives to find a solution. Rotary Club Timișoara Cosmopolitan members are working right now to feed the hungry, tutor and help disadvantaged children, maintain parks and playgrounds, develop local culture and much more through projects like:
